Additional information:
A chestnut variety developed by INRA in 1962 at the Malemort-sur - Corrèze station. Good for roasting with very good flavor for a hybrid. Along with Marigoule, it is currently the most widely grown variety in French chestnut groves as it is very productive (3 tons per hectare on average).
Its moderately vigorous upright growth habit means that it can be planted in frames of (7 x 7 m), improving productivity with 200 trees per hectare. In addition, it bears fruit quickly with a good and regular productivity of each tree. In drip irrigated crops in Bordeaux, cumulative production at 5 to 7 years of age ranges from 21 to 40 kg per tree.
Disesases and sensitivities:
- Ink disease: not very resistant (should be grafted onto rootstock with higher resistance).
- Susceptible to late spring frosts, cydias and fruit rot.
- Canker: fairly resistant.
- Resistant to chestnut wasp (Dryocosmus kuriphilus).
